Sometimes, it works! You find something enjoyable. You keep scrolling.

But the companies who built these algorithms know that a valuable habit can eventually become mindless and compulsive.

The house always wins. And the new slot machines can tune their winnings with extraordinary effectiveness.

Engaging with purpose is valuable. And if you can stay within your budget, spending a little cash for a good time is fine.

But be clear about how you are betting.

And make a bigger bet today on the work that matters most.
